President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to Kenya Kwanza's camp's recent salvo of attacks in which they asked him to stop interfering in their political affairs.

President Kenyatta told the camp to stop dragging his name into their campaign trails and instead, focus on drumming up support for their bid.

He was addressing the public after officially commissioning the Nairobi Expressway on Sunday.

"Campaign for yourself and leave me alone. I am doing my job, I finish, you go and ask for votes, if Kenyans vote for you it is okay, if they don't we go home together where is the problem. The world will still go on."

He also responded to criticism from his second-in-command, DP Ruto over his support of Raila Odinga.

The Head of State said that he has the right to choose whom he supports as far as the presidential poll is concerned.

"Everyone, including myself, has the freedom of drumming up for the people they want. But the people of Kenyans have the final say there is no need for sending threats," said President Uhuru.

The president urged leaders to keep the peace in the run-up to the August general election, which is just 8 days away.

"Let us be calm, let us do the right thing and let us tell Kenyans what we shall do for them." President Uhuru said.

President Kenyatta and DP Ruto have gone bare-knuckled against each other in recent weeks, primarily over who is to blame for the Jubilee 10-year tenure's wins and losses.

The argument quickly escalated, with DP Ruto criticizing the president for rallying behind his political rival (Raila) despite previously supporting him (Uhuru) in the 2013 and 2017 elections.
