CBK to appeal cancellation of De La Rue currency printing tender
Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has expressed dissatisfaction with the High Court judgment of April 9, 2018, that quashed the award of a contract to De La Rue International to print the country’s new currency.
CBK, on Wednesday expressed intention to appeal the decision by filing notice of appeal at the Appellate court.
The contract was quashed following a case filed by activist Okiya Omtata protesting the manner in which the tender was awarded to De La Rue International sieving out other qualified bidders.
Justice George Odunga, in a judgment read in court by Judge Paul Nyamweya, declared that the tender was unlawful and unconstitutional and, as such, quashed it.
In the judgment, the judge issued an order directing CBK to transparently reevaluate the bids of all complaint tenders and award the tender strictly according to the law.
