Chaos rock burial of ex-Mayor as Governor ejected

Funeral service of ex-Kitui Mayor Martha Mwangagi in Mwembe Tayari Village in Kitui County was disrupted on Friday afternoon after the arrival of Kitui Governor Julius Malombe who has been accused of politically dividing the people of Kitui.

Martha Mwangangi was run over by a County Government of Kitui truck during a demonstration to protest the demolition of kiosks allegedly constructed on road reserves.

Rowdy mourners threatened to rough up the governor and forcibly ejected him from the ceremony.

The mourners said that they could not allow the Governor to address them, blaming him for the death of Ms Mwangangi.

Mwangangi’s family members had previously warned Malombe against attending the burial saying that it was a private function and they had the authority to decide who attends the ceremony.

The Governor left with his supporters.

Ms Mwangangi, was on Friday, December 16 crushed to death by a fire engine during a protest by Kalundu Market traders in Kitui Town.

Mwangangi was leading the protest together with former Lands Cabinet Minister Charity Ngilu after stalls belonging to Kalundu Market traders were allegedly brought down by the County Government of Kitui officers.

Ngilu escaped death by a whisker after her aide pushed her aside as the truck ran over the deceased.

The incident sparked an uproar among Kitui politicians led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
