Cholmondeley’s cause of death unknown, pathologist’s report shows

The family of Tom Cholmondeley, the great-grandson of the Lord Delamere, now says that the cause of death of the Briton at MP Shah Hospital Nairobi is still unknown.

In a statement to the media, Sally Dudmesh, the family spokesman and Cholmondeley’s partner said that, “The initial finding of the post mortem is that the cause of death is indeterminate.”

The family further revealed that the 48-year-old’s postmortem was carried out on August 18, 2016, led by the Government Pathologist and attended by an independent pathologist for the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi and a pathologist nominated by Tom’s family.

“Further tests are being carried out by the Government and family pathologists,” read the statement in part

“It is not appropriate for anyone to speculate on the cause of death before those tests have been completed and the results are known, which may take several weeks. All of the parties involved have the full confidence of Tom’s family, who sincerely appreciate everyone’s hard work at this difficult time.”

Controversy rocked Cholmondeley’s death after doctors at the MP Shah Hospital alleged that he died out of a cardiac arrest following a hip replacement surgery but the family has since dismissed the report.

Thomas Cholmondeley was the great-grandson of the Lord Delamere, one of the first and most influential British settlers in Kenya, died on Wednesday.

He made headlines over ten years ago for the killing of two people in his ranch – deaths that dominated headlines in the country, with many claiming that he was being given preferential treatment from the courts.

The family of one of the slain men, Samson Ole Sisina, has asked the family of the Tom Cholmondeley to compensate Ole Sisina’s  widow before the the Briton’s burial.
