Citizen Digital was on Friday feted at this year’s Digital Media Awards (DMAs) held at Naivasha in Nakuru County.
The DMAs
recognise creativity and innovation across brands, agencies and
individuals behind unique and original campaigns in the previous year in line
with innovations in the digital technology space.
In the
content category, Citizen Digital took home a bronze award for good
storytelling for the video essay ‘Black Tuesday: Covering the Gen-Z Protest.’
The short film by
Citizen Digital journalists Lynn Ndinda and Moses Kinyanjui highlighted their
experience at the frontline of Kenya’s deadly anti-government protests in June
and July, during which youthful demonstrators stormed Parliament buildings in
Nairobi.
Likewise,
Citizen Digital scooped a bronze medal for the campaign ‘Bringing Technology
Home’ in the technology category through the Citizen Digital mobile application
and web platform.
Commenting
on the double win, Carol Wachira, Director of Marketing and Digital Transformation
at Citizen Digital's parent company Royal Media Services, termed it an
attestation to the outlet’s high-quality work.
“We are
very excited about this double win at the DMAs as it is a testament to
our commitment to giving our viewers only the best when it comes to their
experience on Citizen Digital,” she said.
“The
depth and length that go into putting the stories together onto this platform
are unmatched. We thank our very loyal audiences on both our Citizen Digital
app and website, and we promise them a lot more exciting and innovative
developments in the New Year.”
Some of
the other 2024 DMA winners include Olive Wangai (Copywriter of the Year),
Stephen Kiprono (Editor of the Year), Maxwell Ngari (Creative Director of the
Year), Brigid Wambua (Marketing Manager of the Year), Tusker (Brand of the
Year) and Dentsu Kenya, which took home the Agency of the Year award.
Muthoni
Mumo, the awards’ director, said: “The awards were very well-deserved. I am
glad the agencies participated, collaborated and supported each other, even
though they are competitors out in the field.”
“It has
been a great thing for the industry at large; local awards are important for
building ourselves, setting standards and learning from each other.”
Friday’s
event was the seventh edition of the DMAs.
Citizen
Digital alongside Citizen Television and Hot96 FM, both sister
brands in the Royal Media Services umbrella, were the event’s media
partners.
