The broadcaster emerged the winner in the Favorite TV station category at the 5th KUZA Awards organised by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) on Tuesday.
Inooro TV, which is also part of the Royal Media Services umbrella, emerged third in the same category.
In another category, Inooro TV emerged the winner in the Local Content Award - Free to Air TV category while Ramogi FM emerged third in the Favorite Radio Station category.
CA Director General Ezra Chiloba said that a total of 3,195,344 votes were cast through SMS in the People's Choice Award category, double the number cast in last year’s awards, where 1,274,966 votes were cast.
Mr. Chiloba further noted that the broadcasting sub-sector continues to attract more players.
“In the past three quarters, an additional 71 licenses have come on board bringing the total number of FM radio stations to 186 and TV stations to 148,” he said.
On her part, ICT Principal Secretary Esther Koimett urged the media to use their platforms responsibly as the country prepares for the August General Election.
“The country is now heading to the critical phase of the General Elections, a time of greater interest not just for the citizens, but the rest of the world, which is also closely watching the outcome of this process,” said Ms. Koimett.
“Broadcasters will be at the centre of the General Elections. How we shoulder this responsibility, including how we project our country in this period will be critical.”
The KUZA Broadcasting Awards are in their 5th year.
