Judges of the High Court and the Environment Lands Court (ELC) have asked Chief Justice Martha Koome to lobby for more judges to be hired so as to improve the delivery and quality of work in courtrooms across the country.
Justice Oscar Angote of the ELC says that five stations among them Nakuru, Thika, Mombasa, and Kajiado need more judges further noting that judges in the region currently handle over 500 cases individually.
Presiding judge of the High Court Erick Ogolla also emphasized the need to have more judges.
"One judge handling 1000 cases is something that needs to be addressed. The High Court is the breeding ground of Court of Appeal judges. You are taking our best and we urge you to stop taking our best," said Ogolla.
His sentiments were echoed by Court of Appeal Judge Daniel Musinga.
"Hope will have numbers enhanced," said Musinga.
The congregation was told that the High Court has promoted mediation in the ADR which has helped in reducing cases in the Judiciary.
