COFEK Demands For Lower Commuter Fees
COFEK wants transport Cabinet Secretary Engineer Michael Kamau to convene a meeting with COFEK, National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) and matatu owners and operators to discuss extent to which fares must come down.
COFEK secretary general Stephen Mutoro faulted argument by PSV operators that the recent fuel drop cannot result in fare drop due to high operation and maintenance costs, saying fuel accounts for over 40% of operational costs.
Mutoro wants police to ensure all PSV’s display applicable maximum peak and off-peak fares and NTSA to demand that all commuter vehicles issue receipts for fares paid.
