Collection of ready passports to be time-bound, compulsory- CS Kindiki

In an unexpected visit to the Embu Regional Immigration Department offices, the CS met with senior Immigration officers on Tuesday, September 12, to assess the processing backlogs.

With thousands of unclaimed passports at the Immigration Department's Nyayo House Headquarters and regional offices, the Government plans to make a major announcement next week.

“I think part of it is members of the public. They apply for passports and then forget… After that, we will withdraw because the law allows us to withdraw passports, then dispose off it,” said Kindiki.

This upcoming initiative will make it mandatory for Kenyans to collect their passports within a certain time frame, ensuring process efficiency.

“We will upgrade your computers, IT systems and give you better equipments,” Kindiki added.

The CS emphasized the importance of eliminating brokers and middlemen from the application and production processes of vital documents.
