Conduct fresh probe in to NYS Scandal, MP tells Gov’t

Mogotio MP Hellen Sambili asked the Government to launch fresh investigations into the National Youth Service (NYS) Scandal, even as the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) continues to question individuals mentioned in the scam.

Sambili says the Ksh1.8 billion that was allegedly stolen from the key Jubilee Administration project dealt a huge blow the country’s youth, noting that the money could have been used to help them secure a stable future.

Speaking during the launch of NYS youth Empowerment programme at Mogotio town in Baringo County, Mogotio said that not empowering the youth was detrimental to Kenya’s future as they are the country’s most important resource.

“The future of this country depends on the youth and the moment we empower them, we are assured of a sober country in times to come,” she noted.

Sambili’s sentiments were echoed by Marakwet East MP Bowen Kangogo, with the latter adding NYS Scandal culprits should be prosecuted to the full force of the law.

“Anyone who defrauded NYS should be brought to book, and should also gove back the money” he said.

The NYS Scandal has dominated headlines over the past few weeks, with top officials in the Devolution Ministry being asked to make submissions about the loss of cash.

Speaking at the same function, Public Service, Youth and Gender Service affairs Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki promised no money will be stolen from NYS under her watch.
