The investigation into Albert Ojwang's suspected murder continues to raise more questions than answers, as the director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Amin Mohammed, revealed discrepancies in police reports.

Amin appeared before the National Assembly Security Committee on Thursday, revealing the long-hidden names of the officers who booked Ojwang at the Central Police Station.

He stated that on Saturday, June 7, a team of five officers from the DCI's Serious Crimes Unit arrived at the station with Ojwang, and a digital booking report was made at 21:32 by Police Constable (PC) Mohamed Rashid Abdullahi, who was the report officer.

Another PC, identified as Mukhwana, is said to have taken Ojwang to his designated cell.

The OB, as narrated by Amin, read: "Now, Senior Sergeants Sigei and Kirui, PC Kinyoni, Mwanze and Rapudo all of DCI's headquarters Serious Crime, now book in a male suspect namely Albert Ojwang' to be charged with the offence of false publication and placed in cell by PC Mukhwana," Amin said.

A few hours later, at 01:35, PC Abdullahi is said to have keyed in another digital OB from 8/6/2025 that read: "Now duty officer IP Ng'ang'a and cell sentry PC Kimani have visited the cells and have found most of them well apart from the last cell where a found a prisoner namely Albert Ojwang', who was alone in his cell making a lot of noise while kicking the cell walls."

Legislators questioned how, as reported by the police, Ojwang' was found unconscious four minutes later at 01:39. Amin added that Ojwang' was taken to Mbagathi Hospital where he was received at around 2am and later pronounced dead.

Amin's revelation, however, showed contrast to an earlier police report that Ojwang' sustained head injuries “by hitting his head severally against the wall inside the cell.”

The timelines to the death also pose another discrepancy, as other police records indicated that Ojwang' was declared dead on arrival at the Mbagathi Hospital at 1:39am.

Ojwang' was arrested after Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service (DIG) Eliud Kipkoech Lagat made a defamation complaint against him.

Despite Amin maintaining that Ojwang' was booked "appearing normal", sources within the police station say he was booked in bleeding and with serious injuries.

An autopsy report also revealed that Ojwang' was found with serious injuries on the head, neck compression, and soft tissue injuries spread across his body, as said by government pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has also revealed that CCTV footage from the Officer Commanding Station's (OCS) office at the Central Police Station has also been tampered with.
