The National Construction Authority (NCA), Kenya's construction overseer, has reported that the building that collapsed on January 10, in Karen Ward, within Lang'ata Sub-County, Nairobi County, was not registered.

In a statement to newsrooms, NCA noted that the one-storey building, located on Plot Number 12882/197, Ngong View lane, claimed two lives, critically injuring two people and seven others were left with minor injuries and have received medical attention.

"The occurrence took place during concrete casting works at the carport area of the structure," the statement read in part.

The Authority added that the preliminary assessments indicate a suspected failure of the formwork system, which collapsed under the load of fresh concrete.

The plot, said to be owned by one Moses Nyakiongora, remains suspended. Rescue operations were concluded on Sunday evening, and the area will remain cordoned off.

A further probe is underway, and a comprehensive report will be issued upon conclusion of the same.

The incident came after a 12-storey building collapsed in South C, Nairobi, on January 2, 2026, killing two people.
