Coronavirus cases in Kenya rise to 270 as two more patients die

Eight more patients have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kenya raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 270.

At the same time, two more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 bringing the number of fatalities to 14.

Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi in a press briefing on Sunday said the eight new patients include 7 Kenyans and one foreigner who are aged between 17-65 years.

According to the Health Ministry, none of the eight persons had a history of travel.

“Three emanated from our quarantine centres and five were picked by our surveillance teams from various parts of the country,” said Dr. Mwangangi.

Four of the patients are from Mombasa, three Nairobi and one from Kajiado.

Dr. Mwangangi also announced that seven more patients had been discharged after recovering from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries in Kenya to 67.

She also announced that out of the 270 infections, 56% of them are imported cases while 46% are from local transmission.
