Couple killed during Ruaka building collapse buried
The
couple that perished after they were buried under the rubble of a 5-storey
building that collapsed in Ruaka a fortnight ago, Peter Njuthi Karomo and Faith Wambui Injuthi,
were on Tuesday laid to rest at their home in Kiambu County.
Kiambaa
Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina urged the public to continue
volunteering information on houses that they suspect pose a danger to members
of the public.
He
assured residents that the government will not hesitate to punish rogue
contractors and developers.
The
owner of the building was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI) as she tried to flee the country days after the
tragedy and was charged and released on bail.
Four Kiambu County officials are also in custody as investigations
into the puzzle behind the collapsed building continue.
The four are; Stephen Bundi Njiraini, John Murimi Mwobe, Pauline
Njeri Wanjiku and Geoffrey Mathini Kamau.
They’re expected to be charged with
manslaughter after they allegedly failed to act in ensuring that the owners of
the building that crumbled complied with all the approved construction
requirements.
The case is up for mention on December 8, 2022
