A Nairobi court has freed activist Boniface Mwangi and four other suspects who were arrested during a demonstration on July 25, 2024.

Mwangi was arrested alongside, Albert Wambugu, Robert Otieno, Pablo Chacha and Erot Franco and were freed on bail when they first appeared in court on July 26, 2024.

On Tuesday, the court declined an application by the prosecution to be granted two weeks to finish investigations against the five.

The court ordered their cash bail be released.

They were accused of publishing false material, unlawful assembly and creating disturbance.

Mwangi was among those picked up by police during a march to honour victims of the ongoing anti-government protests.
