Court revokes bail for Phillip Aroko, orders extended detention in murder probe

In a ruling issued Monday, Justice Kavenza found merit in the prosecution's application to detain Aroko for an additional seven days to facilitate ongoing investigations.

The judge found the request to be reasonable and proportionate, considering the delicate nature and extent of the ongoing investigations.

“The application is found to be merited,” Justice Kavenza stated, certifying the matter as urgent and underscoring the need to balance investigative imperatives with constitutional safeguards.

The court emphasized that the extended detention was a temporary measure designed to allow investigators to finalize key leads without jeopardizing Aroko's fundamental rights.

Aroko will now be held in custody at Kileleshwa Police Station until May 26, 2025, pending further investigation.

Last week, the Chief Magistrate's Court granted Aroko bail with the condition that he not interfere with witnesses or co-accused persons in the case. The High Court's decision overturns that ruling, reinforcing the prosecution's concerns about possible obstruction of justice.

Authorities have yet to reveal additional details about the murder investigation, but sources close to the case say Aroko is a person of interest in connection with a high-profile homicide.
