COVID-19: Kenya records 32 new cases, positivity rate at 2.2pc

The Ministry of Health has announced that 32 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 1,446 samples tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 2.2 percent.

Of the cases, 26 are Kenyans while 6 are foreigners; 12 are females and 20 are males. The youngest is a 9-year-old and the oldest is 70 years old.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 324,274 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,650,765.

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi recorded the highest with 23.

Others were Kisumu 5, Nakuru,Kajiado, Kiambu and Meru 1 case each. 

A total of 3 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 296 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

“No patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or on supplemental oxygen or in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).” Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Monday.

CS Kagwe noted that 48 patients recovered from the disease, all of them from Home-Based Isolation and Care. This pushes the total recoveries to 318,324.

No death was recorded; cumulative fatalities  now stand at 5,651.

In the vaccination front, a total of 18,096,698 vaccines had been administered across the country as of May 22, 2022.

“Another 1,341,402 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 33,452 are below 15 years but above 12 years while 323,148 are booster doses,” said CS Kagwe.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 30.8 percent with the government working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
