COVID-19: Kenya's positivity rate at 13% after 427 cases recorded

Kenya has recorded 427 new COVID-19 cases out of a sample size of 3,503 people tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 13 per cent.

Of the cases, 365 are Kenyans while 62 are foreigners; 217 are males and 210 are females. The youngest case is that of a two-year-old child and the oldest is 100 years old.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 331,966 with 3,742,132 cumulative tests having been conducted so far.

The infections were distributed across various counties as follows: Nairobi 259, Kiambu 36, Siaya 24, Mombasa 15, Nakuru 15, Kilifi 13, Kirinyaga 13, Kericho 12, Uasin Gishu 12, Kisumu 7, Garissa 4, Laikipia 4, Nyandarua 4, Kitui 2, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisii, Lamu, Machakos, Meru and Taita Taveta recorded a single case each.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 467 patients have recovered from the disease which has claimed no lives in the past 24 hours; hence cumulative fatalities stand at 5,651.

“There are 109 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 3,965 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program," said Kagwe in a statement on Saturday.

"3 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of whom 2 are on ventilator support while 1 is on supplemental oxygen. Another 15 are in the General Wards and are all on supplemental oxygen. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)."

A total of 18,717,774 vaccines have also been administered across the country, according to Kagwe.

"Of these, 16,712,599 are doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above). Another 1,518,183 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 41,603 are below 15 years but above 12 years while 445,389 are booster doses," said Kagwe.

"The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 16,722 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 6,357."
