COVID 19: Kenya's positivity rate now at 7.8pc as 310 people test positive

The new infections, with a positivity rate of 7.8 percent push the tally of confirmed positive infections to 317, 634 , and the tally of samples tested to 3,147,823.

From the new infections,  256 are Kenyans while 54 are foreigners,  161 are female while 149 are males

According to the Ministry of Health Statement on Sunday, the youngest patient is a four-month-old-child while the oldest is 97 years.

The new infections are  distributed across various counties as follows: Nairobi 180, Siaya 16, UasinGishu 16, Kiambu 14, Migori 12, Nakuru 8, Nandi 7, Nyamira 6, Kisii 5, Kwale 4, Vihiga 4, Kakamega 4, Embu 4, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Lamu 3, Trans Nzoia 3, Nyandarua 3, Garissa 2, Kajiado 2, Nyeri 2, Laikipia 2, Machakos 1, Meru 1, Mombasa 1, Murang’a 1, Taita Taveta 1, Baringo 1, Kericho 1, Kisumu 1, Kilifi 1 and Bungoma 1.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,043 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide while 10,664 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

"53 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, 51 are on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen," the Health Ministry said. 

“Another 241 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 237 of them are in the general wards. 4 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health reported that 3,384 patients had recovered from the disease. 

A total of 3,329 recoveries were from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 55 were  from various health facilities countrywide.

"This brings the total recoveries to 284,727. Of these, 233,586 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program while 51,141 are from various health facilities countrywide," the Health Ministry said. 

No new deaths were reported on Sunday. Kenya's deathtoll from the disease now stands at 5,448. 

Vaccination 

11,082,457 vaccines had been administered across the country as of January 15 2022, according to data from the Health Ministry, with 4,763,682 full vaccinations and 6,198,816 partial vaccinations. 

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is now 17.5 percent. 

The Ministry further reported that 30,245  doses of the Pfizer vaccine had been administered to those between the ages of 15 to 18 years. 

Some  89,714 doses had been adminstered as booster doses.

Kenya hopes to vaccinate a total of 27, 246, 033 people by the end of 2022.
