Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has called for thorough investigations into the recent acts of violence against women that have occurred in our country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Jumwa committed to working with law enforcement agencies, to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are swiftly brought to justice.

“We are deeply troubled and saddened by the recent acts of violence against women that have occurred in our country. The tragic incidents, including the recent murders of women in Airbnb accommodations, are a stark reminder of the urgent need to address violence against women in our society. We condemn these heinous acts in the strongest possible terms,” said the CS Jumwa.

“As the Ministry responsible for gender issues we call for thorough and comprehensive investigations into these cases, and we urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.”

The CS also cautioned against shaming of victims noting that in doing so, the victims suffer double victimization.

“Furthermore, we reiterate our commitment to promoting a culture of respect, equality, and safety for all individuals in Kenya, regardless of gender. We encourage the public to stand united against violence and to support efforts to create safer environments for women and girls,” she added.

The remarks by CS Jumwa come in the wake of a spike in cases of murder against women in the country who have been reportedly killed by men in private establishments under unclear circumstances.

The most recent is the case of Rita Waeni Muendo, a 20-year-old university student whose dismembered body was discovered at a residential apartment in Nairobi’s Roysambu area on Sunday after she reported going to meet a friend.

Another recent case where popular socialite Starlet Wahu was on January 4 found murdered at a residential apartment in Nairobi’s South B area after checking in, in the company of a man since identified as John Matara.

More victims have come out to record police statements narrating their assault ordeals with Matara.
