CS Kaimenyi storms leaking Maua lands office

Lands Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, made an impromptu visit to Maua land offices in Meru County on Thursday, June 29 and was shocked to find that 45,000 tittle deeds were uncollected by their owners.

The CS further found the land registry using an old charter service that has since been reviewed.

CS Kaimenyi said that he found most of the county systems were not working adding that his Ministry has already processed three million tittle deeds which ought to have been given to the owners.

“As you all know, the Jubilee administration promised Kenyans that it will process three million tittle deeds but I am surprised we have 45,000 uncollected tittle deeds in this particular registry which ought to have been collected a long time ago,” he said.

“We have agreed with the officials here that they will have a program where they will manually look for the rightful owners at their homes and working places and hand the tittles to them.”

The CS also decried the poor condition of the offices and asked the officials to make an explanation to his office bearing in mind that that Ministry has an annual allocation for office repairs and rehabilitation.

“I have looked at the roof of this building, it is leaking and has not been painted for a long time. The registrar tells me the money meant for this purpose has not been wired to them which I doubt. I will however find out, if the information is false, I will take the necessary action.”

Kaimenyi said he also sought to find out the state of internet connectivity from the land registry but was informed that the offices have not had access to internet for the past two years.

He challenged land registrars in different parts of the country to communicate to the Ministry whenever they have resource challenges terming it as their right.
