CS Macharia assures truck drivers in Juba of their safety

Transport Cabinet Secretary Dr James Macharia on Thursday said the government is working hard to assure safety of long distance truck drivers, transporting cargo to Juba in South Sudan following the eruption of civil unrest in the country a week ago.

Addressing the press in Mombasa, Macharia said that despite the renewed fighting in the world’s youngest nation, which claimed the lives of 16 Kenyan track drivers, the government will do everything possible within its reach to guarantee them of their safety.

Macharia said that the different departments of the government were in talks to ensure Kenyans still stuck is Juba are evacuated to safety.

“I would like to condole with the families of the killed truck drivers and also assure you that, as the government  carry out investigations about the killings, it is doing all it can to evacuate those Kenyans stuck in South Sudan,” he said.

The civil unrest in Juba came to an end on Tuesday after President Salva Kiir and first Vice President Riek Machar intercepted declaring a ceasefire among their troops.
