CS Magoha pushes school reopening further to Thursday next week

The Ministry of Education has further pushed the reopening of schools from the earlier announced Monday 15, to Thursday 18, 2022.

Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha said in a statement on Saturday that the changes have been occasioned by an expected delay in the vote tallying process.

“Following the conduct of our National Elections on Tuesday 9th August, 2022 the process of tallying of ballots is still ongoing. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the reopening of ALL Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August, 2022 until Thursday 18th August, 2022,” said CS Magoha.

He added that the latest communication supersedes any earlier communication that the ministry had made on the re-opening of basic education institutions.

On July 31, Magoha had said that schools would open on August 15, but later changed the date to August 11 after ordering an immediate closure of schools in a statement on August 1.

The sudden order to close schools left parents disappointed, prompting the Education CS to issue an apology on the inconvenience caused.

He later pushed the date to August 15 through a statement on August 10.
