CS Namwamba hails Kasavuli as a towering figure in Kenyan journalism as he visits her in hospital

the Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has
praised legendary news anchor Catherine Kasavuli.
Speaking on Saturday when he visited and said a prayer with Kasavuli
at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she is recuperating, Namwamba termed
her a trailblazer in Kenyan television who continues to inspire generations
of female journalists.
Catherine is the first female TV news anchor in the country,
and is credited with breaking the glass ceiling for female TV journalists in
the country.
“You have inspired a generation of great female anchors.
Your influence on our female journalists can never be matched. May God give you
healing, so that you can continue to mentor our girls,” CS Namwamba told the
celebrated journalist.
Kasavuli began her career as a radio continuity announcer in
1980 at the Voice of Kenya, before transitioning to television.
During her illustrous career which boomed between the 1990s and 2015,
Kasavuli graced Kenyan TV screens as an anchor in most of Kenya's leading
television stations including Citizen TV, State broadcaster KBC and KTN.
Kasavuli returned to KBC in
2020, where she hosts the Legend Edition. She is currently admitted at KNH
after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“Let us do coffee once I'm out of here," said Kasavuli
to CS Namwamba.
