Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has condemned the widespread destruction during the recent Gen Z protests across the country.
Speaking in
Mbeere North, Embu County, during a community engagement and public
participation forum, CS Ruku accused opposition leaders, including former
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, of orchestrating what he described as
“planned terrorism and havoc disguised as peaceful demonstrations.”
Ruku criticised
the political faction for undermining national unity for personal gain, warning
that Kenyans would not tolerate any attempts to destabilize the country under
the guise of activism. “The people of Kenya will not allow individuals with
selfish interests to destroy the peace and stability we have worked hard to
build,” Ruku stated.
He also urged
political leaders to avoid divisive tactics in their pursuit of power. “You
cannot attain leadership by dividing the nation. It is harmful to seek power
through polarization and division,” he added.
The CS
challenged the opposition to engage in politics of ideas, presenting their
vision and tangible plans for the country, rather than resorting to rhetoric
that fuels tension. “Let the opposition tell Kenyans what they will do for
them, rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric that serves no national
interest,” he emphasized.
Ruku further
cautioned the youth against being misled by political figures who, in his view,
seek power through deceitful and destructive means. “As a parent, I understand
the challenges our youth face. I urge them to reason with us in addressing
these issues, but not through destruction and disorder incited by selfish
political leaders,” he said.
The CS also
praised the people of Mbeere for their active participation in community
development discussions, reaffirming the government's commitment to engaging
with citizens at the grassroots level. “We are committed to fostering similar
engagements across all counties to build a cohesive and inclusive society,” he
said.
Addressing concerns over youth unemployment, Ruku highlighted the government’s focus on empowering the youth through skills development and employment opportunities. He announced plans to expand the National Internship Programme in collaboration with other government agencies.
“We are committed to ensuring that the youth
are not left behind. The internship program will provide hands-on experience
and open employment pathways for our young people,” Ruku said.
He concluded by urging communities to
support youth-focused initiatives and reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to
public service reforms that prioritize inclusion and measurable impact at the
grassroots level.
