Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku on Friday paid impromptu visits to the GPO and
Eastleigh Huduma Centres in Nairobi to assess service delivery and engage
directly with the staff and citizens.
During the visits,
the CS acknowledged the frontline workers' dedication to perform their duties
despite operating with limited resources.
He emphasised the
government's commitment to improving efficiency within the public service.
“I am impressed by
the level of professionalism and output I have witnessed here today. It is
encouraging to see public servants doing more with less, showing that they are
committed to serving Kenyans,” CS Ruku stated during a media briefing at the
Eastleigh Huduma Centre.
Further, the CS urged the Public Service Commission (PSC) to
uphold integrity during the recruitment and promotion process.
“I want to
emphasize that moving forward, recruitment and promotion in the public service
must be merit-based. The era of rewarding incompetence is over,” he declared.
CS Ruku reiterated
that he would conduct more impromptu visits to government offices as part of
his efforts to promote accountability and evaluate efficiency within the public
service.
He echoed President
William Ruto’s stance on high
standards of performance and integrity in public institutions.
“Public service is
not a privilege; it is a responsibility. Every officer must remember they are
here to serve Kenyans first,” Ruku said.
“This initiative is
about restoring trust, improving access, and ensuring that the services we
deliver are timely, efficient, and people-focused. Huduma Serikalini is not
just a slogan, it is our mission.”
