DAP-K party leaders sent packing as FORD-Kenya takes lead in Bungoma

FORD-Kenya party leader and Bungoma Senator-elect Moses Wetangula.

Senator Moses Wetangula's FORD-Kenya party has taken lead in Bungoma as ex-allies were sent home in Tuesday's General Elections.

Governor Wangamati, DAP-K boss Wafula Wamunyinyi and Dr. Eseli Simiyu, who had attempted to oust Wetangula from the FORD-Kenya party leader position have lost in the polls.

“I told you that those coup plotters won't push me from FORD-Kenya, I promised them that they must be defeated in these elections which has happened, their coup died on arrival,” Wetangula said.

Bungoma County is now a Ford Kenya stronghold as the Governor, Woman MP, Senator and 3 MPs have won elections and have been declared winners by the IEBC.

In the Kanduyi constituency, FORD-Kenya's John Makali garnered 32,099 against his close rival Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K who got 20,240 followed by former MP Alfred Khang’ati garnered 12,970 for the ODM party.

In Webuye East, Martin Wanyonyi of FORD-Kenya led others with 12,864, Wanjala Iyaya (DAP-K ) 5,383, Caro Buyela of Jubilee party got 4,680, Aggrey Namisi of ODM garnered 4,548 and John Chelongo of UDP got 1,801.

However, in Kabuchai constituency the hotly contested seat Majimbo Kalasinga of FORD-Kenya emerged the winner with 37,627, followed by his close rival Evans Kakai of Jubilee party and Erick Wanyonyi of DAP-K got 2,014 votes.

In Tongaren Constituency, UDA aspirant Murumba Chikati beat former FORD-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu hands down.

Speaking to the press at Kanduyi constituency tallying centre Thursday, Senator Wetangula expressed his satisfaction on the results, adding that Kenya Kwanza conducted enough campaigns to ensure that they deliver as per the agreement that Bungoma delivers 70 percent to the coalition.

“I think what we agreed with William Ruto is that we deliver 70 percent to the coalition and indeed we have managed to do so,” Wetangula said.

Wetang’ula lauded Bungoma residents for believing in him and honouring his call to vote for the Kenya Kwanza aspirants in Tuesday's election.

“I want to say a big thank you to you as my soul supporters for ensuring that you vote for our Kenya Kwanza candidates,” he said.

He alleges that the outgoing county administration led by Governor Wycliffe Wangamati failed residents, and with Governor Lusaka, the FORD-Kenya leadership and the national government will be able to revamp the economy of Bungoma by injecting cash to Nzoia sugar to ensure that the factory is up and running.

However, Wetang’ula wished the outgoing Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati, former Ford Kenya secretary General Dr. Eseli Simiyu and DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi well as they exit offices.

The Woman rep and Governor results had not been officially announced at the time of publishing.
