DCI begins probe into killing of police officer in Ngong night club captured on CCTV

Homicide detectives from the DCI headquarters have taken over investigations into the death of a Kisumu-based police officer who was pushed down the staircase in an entertainment joint in Ngong area of Kajiado County.

The entry of the homicide team comes amid claims of a cover-up by local police in conjunction with the management of the night club known as the Grand Mirage Lounge.

What looks like a brawl at the counter is captured on CCTV footage dated Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11.08 pm.

The man at the corner in a stripped sweater who we have identified as police constable Moses Oyugi appears to be accosted by a man in a white t-shirt before a fight ensued attracting the club’s security.

A minute later, a second video capturing the entrance of the club shows the security men first pushing Oyugi down the stairs where he landed head first. Then the man who has since been arrested as the main culprit is also pushed. Luckily he doesn’t tumble down the stairs.

One of the bouncers walks down to get Oyugi, by this time he was not responsive.

It is then that the family was alerted about the severe injury of the Kisumu-based police officer who had travelled here to seek medical attention.

“They called and told us that my brother had sustained injury and we needed to go to gong sub district hospital, we found that he was being treated by this time bleeding from the head…,” said a family member.

When Citizen Digital visited the Mirage club in Ngong on Thursday, August 4th the establishment was locked. Efforts to reach the management bore no fruit. They declined interviews saying it was a matter under investigation.

According to the family however, the investigations made no headway in the hands of the local police here.

“We believe there is a coverup so far just one person was arrested, at some point he handed his phone to the counter which means he knows them…,” said the family member.

Area residents claim the club has previously attracted huge fights involving police officers who a lot of times enjoy protection from within the Ngong Police Station ranks.

“Hapa huwezi kaa wiki moja ama mili bila kuskia risasi...,” said a resident.

An autopsy on the body of the 38-year-old father of two conducted at Nairobi West Hospital by Chief Government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Oyugi died as a result of a blood clot in the brain brought about by blunt force trauma consistent with a fall off the stairs.

Detectives are now looking for the club bouncers in hoodies behind Oyugi’s push.
