DCI detectives probing death of Boni Khalwale’s bull caretaker as burial postponed
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has postponed
the burial of his fighter bull caretaker and trainer Kizito Moi Amukune after
controversy erupted over the actual cause of the 46-year old's brutal death.
While
responding to claims from some quarters on the cause of Moi's gory death, the Senator termed the
assertions “wild, baseless and false” while also revealing that the burial was
postponed to allow detectives to get to the bottom of the matter.
The Senate Majority
Whip also revealed that he had already invited and hosted a team of detectives from
the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to his Malinya home for what
he termed a “thorough fact-finding” mission.
"Following
wild, baseless, and false claims by some pseudo politicians in Kakamega, I've
today been forced to indefinitely postpone the burial of my trusted fighter
bull caretaker," he wrote on X.
"Meanwhile,
today, I hosted a team of DCI detectives at my Malinya Home for a thorough fact-finding
mission over the unfortunate demise of the late Kizito Moi Amukune."
Khalwale,
who is affectionately referred to as the 'Bull fighter' for his penchant for
rearing fighter bulls and also passionately promoting the sport, added that
Moi's funeral would only continue after the police had made “credible and
conclusive” investigations.
"I've
readily opened up my home to the police to afford them an opportunity to make
credible and conclusive investigations into this sad death thereby enabling
them to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion before burial plans continue,"
he said.
On January
28, Khalwale revealed that Inasio, his decorated fighter bull renowned across
Western Kenya, had gored and killed its caretaker at his residence in
Shikhuyu village, Kakamega.
According to
Khalwale, the body was found in the cowshed by another employee while he went
around doing his duties.
Speaking
after the incident, the Senator said the deceased staff had been the caretaker
of all his fighter bulls over the last 20 years.
In keeping
with Luhya traditions, Khalwale then speared and slaughtered the killer bull.
Following
the death of the caretaker, a popular Kakamega businessman refuted the former
Ikolomani MP’s version of events.
