Detectives
from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered a high-end
vehicle that had reportedly been stolen from a garage in Nairobi.
According
to the DCI, the Mercedes-Benz GLK350d vanished from Spring Valley garage where
it had been booked for painting, with the watchman at the facility also
disappearing and his phone remaining unreachable.
“His (watchman)
mobile phone was switched off, raising immediate red flags and triggering the
circulation of the vehicle as stolen,” said the DCI.
The stolen Mercedes was later spotted moving along Mombasa
Road, prompting a high-speed pursuit. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and
fled on foot when officers closed in.
“Through painstaking forensic investigation, detectives
traced the Benz cruising along Mombasa Road. A hot pursuit ended at a
police roadblock mounted by Imbirikani officers in Kajiado South Sub-County.
Cornered, the occupants opted to escape on foot into nearby thickets,
disappearing towards Oltiasika and Nosilale villages,” the DCI added.
A closer inspection revealed the vehicle had been fitted
with fake number plates. The front registration plate, KDR 003N, had been
altered in an attempt to evade detection.
“The vehicle has since been seized and escorted back to
Nairobi. Meanwhile, investigators are hot on the trail of the elusive suspects,
determined to bring these criminals to justice,” said the DCI.
