DCI detectives in Koibatek, Baringo County are investigating an incident involving suspected counterfeit fertiliser seized in the region.

This follows complaints by two Poror village residents who reported spending Ksh.89,600 on 34 bags of NPK fertiliser labeled "KELGREEN" from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Eldama Ravine, only to discover they were fake.

"Some of the samples brought to the DCI office at Koibatek has granules resembling cattle licking salt and black stones and others have goat or sheep hair," a police report on the incident reads in part.

After inspecting the bags, the Sub-County Security Committee ordered the NCPB depot to recall 2,650 bags of the fertiliser that had already been circulated to farmers.
