De-register substandard schools – President Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has instructed education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to de-register substandard schools constructed by politicians in various parts of the country.
Kenyatta said there is mushrooming of substandard schools that do not meet the education status, saying there is need for action to be taken.
President Kenyatta said a section of politicians to misuse resources (funds) by competing with their opponents and building fake schools, in turn affecting the standard of education in the country.
On other hand hand warned that the government will impose tough rules on those engaged in exam cheating and those found will be arrested.
Speaking during the annual Kenya secondary schools head teachers association meeting in Mombasa ,education CS Dr Fred Matiangi said his ministry will delivery credible exams this year.
On recent signing of CBA, Kenyatta urged the Teachers service Commission (TSC) to fast track the signing and implementation of agreements to end perennial industry strikes in the country.
KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion said the teachers strike unlikely for next four years after the landmark signing of CBA .
Kenya secondary school head teachers association chairman Mr John Awiti said teachers are fully supporting current reforms being spearheaded by the government in the ministry of education, but insisted that teachers need to be retrained to meet the required standards.
