Death toll in Uganda's Ebola outbreak rises to 11 as 4 more cases confirmed
Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Friday
announced that four more Ebola cases have been confirmed, taking the total
number of cases to 11.
The ministry also said three people succumbed
to the disease, raising the number of cumulative fatalities to 11 as well,
"Of these, 8 deaths were from the
community whereas 3 are facility based. Currently, there are 25 cases on
admission at the health facility, out of which 6 are confirmed while 19 are
suspected of EVD," Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero said in the
statement.
The ministry noted that rapid response teams had
since been deployed on the ground to follow up on the links to the already
established cases.
Dr. Ocero added that, cumulatively, a total
of 58 contacts have so far been listed, adding that she would on Saturday hold the
National Task Force in Mubende Council Hall following the outbreak.
As the government seeks to establish ways of
combating the deadly disease, Ugandan citizens were further urged to install
hand washing facilities at all public facilities.
“The public is encouraged to remain vigilant
and report any suspected Ebola cases to the nearest health facility or call the
toll-free line 0800-100-066,” read the statement.
