Defiant Karua flashes Narc Kenya symbol during Uhurus Kirinyaga tour

Deputy President William Ruto has called on Narc Kenya leader, Martha Karua, to ditch her party and join the Jubilee Party.

Addressing Kirinyaga residents on Tuesday, November 29 moments after Karua spoke, Ruto asked the Narc Kenya leader, who had earlier been seen to support the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), to jump ship so as to widen the Jubilee Party’s votes basket.

Karua, a once fierce critic of the Jubilee administration, dropped her presidential ambition and opted to contest for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections.

Karua has in the past insisted that she would not ditch her party for Jubilee while also remaining coy on who she would support in the presidential elections.

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, and incumbent Joseph Ndathi have also expressed interest in the seat.

Ruto told Karua that the Kirinyaga electorate had no problem with her candidature but with her party and hence she should cross over to Jubilee.

Wananchi wa Kirinyaga hawana shida na wewe, shida yao ni chama (The Kirinyaga voters have no problem with you or your candidature, the problem is the party,” Ruto told the Narc Kenya leader.

The defiant Karua, however, flashed Narc Kenya’s symbol affirming her earlier stand that she would not jump ship and join President Kenyatta’s party.

She has also remained non-committal on her presidential candidate although she has seemingly inclined to the ruling Jubilee.
