Dennis Itumbi speaks on his role in Ruto’s administration, forgiving abductors

Dennis Itumbi was among the men who were instrumental in President William Ruto’s campaign, leading to his win in the 2022 General Election.

Since taking oath of office on September 13, the Head of State has made key appointments in his administration, which has seen people in his inner circle take government positions. Itumbi’s name has not appeared in the appointments.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Friday, while hosting the Chapati Forum, Itumbi said he is playing an integral role in Ruto’s administration.

"I have a very important role which is, come here, go there. That is a very critical role in the government,” he said.

Asked to clarify rumour that he is destined for the Government Spokesperson position, Itumbi said that is a great wish but his current position is 'come here, go there'.

The 2022 Chapati Forum saw Itumbi treat Boda boda riders in Kiambu County to a day of merry making, as he commemorated one year since he was allegedly abducted, tortured and dumped at Kasarani, Nairobi.

Itumbi, the founder of the Chapati Forum, partnered with Ushers Kenya to cook chapati at an open space near Kiambu town, and invited boda boda riders to thank them for saving him when he was left in a bush after the alleged torture.

He said he chose Kiambu Road because that is where he was picked by his alleged abductors who went on to hurt him and leave him for the death.

"I forgive all those who wronged me. I forgive the senior security officers who abducted and tortured me. I am now very happy and this event is to remember the events of that fateful night when they wanted to kill me," Itumbi said amid cheers from his supporters.

Accompanied by comedian Chipukeezy, the two entertained a curious crowd that gathered at the place.

Itumbi said he is looking forward to making the Chapati Forum an annual event where he seeks to treat various groups of people in society especially during the festive season.

"We look forward to making this an annual event where we will interact with Kenyans and encourage the peoppe to help build and sustain our country. The country is not only about the government but also about the people," he added.

His Chapati Forum was started in 2016, but took  a recess after falling out with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
