The Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, has confirmed that the first batch of the government's Ksh. 7 billion state-of-the-art security equipment will begin distribution next week.

The deployment is slated for areas prone to terrorism and banditry, with a focus on bolstering safety measures in regions like North Eastern, Upper Eastern, and Upper Coastal areas.

Speaking from El-Nur in Wajir County at the inauguration of the Sub-County Headquarters and the appointment of Samuel Mokua as the first Deputy County Commissioner, CS Kindiki emphasized the importance of strengthening security measures in vulnerable areas.

Alongside various local leaders including Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Senator Abass Sheikh, CS Kindiki highlighted the significance of equipping security officers with essential tools such as armored personnel carriers and mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles.

CS Kindiki underscored the commitment of the Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Ruto, to safeguard every corner of the country and combat various forms of criminal activities including contraband trade, trafficking, and banditry.

He further disclosed plans to operationalize Sub-Counties in Wajir County and other parts of the country within the current financial year, aimed at enhancing accessibility to government services.

At the same time, CS Kindiki announced the recruitment and training of National Police Reservists (NPRs) starting next month, intended to complement the efforts of multi-agency security personnel in combating terrorism financiers and orchestrators.

In a bid to tackle evolving security threats comprehensively, the government has unveiled a robust 5-year security equipment modernization plan, with an estimated cost of Ksh. 37 billion.

Detailing the acquisition process, CS Kindiki revealed an expenditure of approximately Ksh. 7 billion over the past year for the procurement of security equipment to empower personnel in handling emerging threats effectively.

The second consignment, which includes drones and other modern surveillance equipment, is scheduled to arrive in the country within the next two months, while the third consignment, which includes gunship helicopters and other aerial mobility equipment, will arrive within a year.

"We must neutralise and dominate the enemy from all angles and ensure that our country is safe and our people are able to work, live, and invest in peace and without any fear," CS Kindiki said.
