Deputy Governor’s forum has now thrown its weight behind the Pesa Mashinani initiative by Governors seeking to increase funding to counties to 45 percent.

The deputy governors from 47 counties have also vowed to protect devolution and ensure all devolved functions receive adequate funds from national government.

Speaking in Nairobi, newly elected deputy governors forum chair Joash Maangi was, however, quick to deny that their move was tantamount to fighting the government.

They have also stressed on the need for all Kenyans to support efforts by the government to tackle corruption and spiraling insecurity.

On May 21st, 2015, Council of Governors Chairman Peter Munya said that the Governors were set to re-launch the Pesa Mashinani initiative in a bid to push for more funding to the counties.

While in Naivasha during the Governors’ Summit on May 20th, Munya said that a legal committee would be constituted to fine-tune the amendments before the launch.

He affirmed the council’s commitment to the Pesa Mashinani call for constitutional amendment
