Detectives raid Cleophas Malala's Kakamega home

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided former Kakamega senator Cleopas Malala's home in Milimani, Kakamega on Thursday.

Several videos shared from the incident showed a contingent of police officers, a good number in plain clothes, arriving at Malala's home.

Other videos showed one of then men, believed to be a police officer attempting to break into the ex-senators' house with a lock cutter amid claims that Malala had locked himself inside the house.

His mum, Martha Malala, spoke to journalists during the incident, decrying what she termed as the unfair treatment of her son by the police officers, but not before name-dropping the incumbent Governor, Fernandes Barasa, and the outgoing governor, Wycliffe Oparanya.

"This is not fair to the Kenyan people, we are Kenyans and we are going to fight over this, let us go to court,"

"Barasa got his votes, let him relax as governor of Kakamega, tell Oparanya to get out of this, tell Oparanya his son cannot be tortured like this," she added.

According to the ex-senator's staffer,  detectives who arrived at the home neither talked to anyone, nor showed a search warrant.

Malala, who was one of the contenders eyeing the Kakamega Governor seat, conceded defeat after losing to ODM's Fernades Barasa.

Barasa raked in 192,768 votes against his closest challenger, Malala, who got 59,275 votes.
