Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki encountered a hostile crowd in Othaya, Nyeri County, that chanted "one term" slogans across the fence where he was holding an empowerment event.

The youth, who were outside the stadium's perimeter fence, were repulsed by security officers as the event went on.

More police officers were deployed to take control, even as DP Kindiki, in a verbal attack seemingly directed at his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, accused him of misleading the region.

"Haya mambo ya viongozi kuja kutisha viongozi wengine, yakome! Lazima tuheshimiane... heshima si utumwa..."Kindiki said.

"Huwezi kuja hapa nikama wewe tu ndio kiongozi unajua kila kitu... ati wewe ndio unafaa kusikizwa... kwani wewe ni Mungu?"

Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration will deliver on all its pledges to Kenyans.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy President held a meeting with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire at his official Karen residence, amid speculation of a fallout following Mbarire's outburst in Embu during the Madaraka Day celebrations.

"We have no differences with leaders or the people of Embu. Those trying to bring differences — we have no differences,” Kindiki noted.

The DP further clarified that the meetings he held in the absence of the Governor in Embu were not political meetings or in any way aimed at undermining her leadership.

"Na ndio mjue tuko sawa... pokeeni salamu za my sister Cess. She was to be here today but Rais aliitisha mkutano na all Governors, ya livestock vaccination..." Kindiki added.

During the inaugural macadamia conference held in Embu, the Deputy President said he had earlier on Wednesday intervened on the Cash Crops (Amendment) Bill, 2025 that sought to delist muguka from scheduled cash crops and list it as a drug.

The sponsor of the bill, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, has since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to stand down the legislation.
