DPP to review file on Baby Pendo for prosecution of police officers

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is now reviewing the inquest ruling on the killing of Baby Samantha Pendo in Kisumu.

DPP Noordin Haji said the process is to initiate prosecution of suspects found culpable as per the finding of the inquest for the death of Baby Samantha Pendo in 2017.

The DPP who was addressing the 1st ever International Conference on Police Accountability in Africa said police excesses will not find any comfort within the justice system during his tenure.

He added that they are also developing guidelines to guide conduct of the National Police Service when enforcing the right of citizens to assemble, demonstrate, picket & petition in line with Article 37 of the Constitution.

In February this year, Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo found senior police officers including former Kisumu County commander culpable of the death of Baby Pendo.

Local leaders have been piling pressure on the DPP to move with speed and take action on the officers mentioned.
