Drama as Granny Starts Wailing in Thika Court

Margaret Wanjiru Mwaura had been arraigned before the Thika Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbungi with charges indicating that on March 28 in Makuyu Town, Muranga County she was found with 10 liters of Chang’aa in her home.
She pleaded guilty, but as the Magistrate was about to announce her sentence she broke down and started wailing, causing a stir in the courtroom.
Wanjiru pleaded with the magistrate not to serve a harsh sentence, saying the only reason she sold Chang’aa was to enable her provide for her five grand children left behind by her children.
The granny further told the court that she was the sole bread winner and if jailed the children would suffer immensely.
The Magistrate released the granny to serve under probation supervision for a month.
Wanjiru was however warned that if the law enforcement agents caught up with her again selling illicit liquor stern action would be taken against her.
