Drama as MP, residents forcefully remove education boss from office

Drama ensued at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) offices in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County after a section of residents led by area MP Muthomi Njuki forcefully ejected the County Director of Education from office.

The Friday morning incident saw a halt in all the operations at the TSC offices with employees and other members of the public watch from a distance as the director was ejected from his office.

Members of the public, who accompanied the education stakeholders and the area MP, barricaded the door, blocking the entrance to the office which hosts the County Director and his deputy in charge of sub counties.

The MP, together with education stakeholders from KNUT and KUPPET, accused Paul Okello of ‘spoiling’ education through corruption and gross misconduct.

Okello has been accused of being a lone ranger in operations pertaining to education in the county such as teacher’s transfers and observing TSC policies.

KUPPET Secretary Njeru Mutani accused Okello of not following the right procedure in transfer of teachers while at the same time ignoring other officers in the education ministry.

He said that the director had failed to work with a team rendering other stakeholders as ‘flower girls and boys’.

His KNUT counterpart Patrick Gitonga accused Okello of abetting corruption.

Okello was also accused of applying double standards and bias when it comes to transfers of male and female teachers with the union officials accusing him of favoring ladies.

On his part, MP Muthomi Njuki accused Okello of destroying the education level in the county through his uncouth management practices.
