Drama as Nuns kick out staff at St Mary’s Mission Hospital

Drama unfolded at St. Mary’s Hospital Langata on Thursday morning when The Assumption of Sisters, Nairobi forcefully evicted the old management and staff at the facility after winning ownership dispute case.

According to eye witnesses, the nuns forcefully gained entry into the hospital with the help of police officers and ordered the staff to vacate the premises.

The Sisters are reported to have come with their own medical staff, causing a scuffle and leaving patients unattended.

This comes after a court order by Environment and Land Court Judge Munyao Sila on September 28, 2017 allowed them to seize management from American Missionary William Charles Fryda who was the initial manager of the St. Mary’s hospitals.

In his orders, Justice Munyao Sila ruled that: “The 2^nd defendant (nuns) and/ or its appointed agents/ employees are granted authority to break into and gain forceful entry into L.R NO 27228 AND 22729 located in Langata Nairobi,”

Mr Fryda, an oncologist had moved to court in 2011 seeking orders to eject the nuns from the premises for interfering with the hospital’s operations.

The ownership dispute had been in court for more than six years.
