Worshipers arrived at the East African Pentecostal Church in Embu to find the door locked from inside and the pastor carrying on with the service.
Church Bishop Henry Muguna along with other church leaders who had planned to introduce a new pastor in the church were also locked outside.
Pastor Esphania Muthee Kimotho is said to be protesting his transfer after he went to court to block it, although unsuccessfully.
Police were called in to intervene but Pastor Kimotho would hear none of it, instead he and his congregation sang even louder.
Police officers, led by OCPD Terry Micheni, vowed not to leave the compound until the door was opened.
She further said that the two rival groups would have to go back to court to settle on an amicable solution.
