There was drama at the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) offices when new board members were allegedly denied access following alleged orders by MSCK CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua.

The new members accused Mutua of giving orders that saw them locked up in one room and armed goons called on them.

They claim the goons were armed with knives and were instructed to harass and intimidate them by beatings and tearing their clothes.

Cornelius Macharia, an artist and one of those claiming to have been elected as a new board member in an extraordinary general meeting, claims they were roughed up in the boardroom at MCSK by the alleged goons, who were accompanied by police officers from Kileleshwa Police Station.

"We held an EGM and it was decided that we have new board members. We even obtained a CR-12 meaning we are legally in office," Macharia said.

He recorded a statement at Kileleshwa Police Station and obtained an OB for assault.

Other members who spoke demanded that MCSK Chairman Lazarus Muli vacate office, saying he has overstayed and that new leadership is needed at the society.

"He has been in office for 11 years which is unconstitutional. We want him to vacate office and allow new leadership at MCSK. Dr. Mutua should as well allow changes at the society. He cannot turn against artists who pay his monthly salary of over one million shillings," Ephantus Safari said.
