The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has teamed up with the Baringo County Government to operationalise a Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC), in a move aimed at strengthening the fight against graft at the county level.
The initiative was
unveiled at the county headquarters by EACC Commissioner John Ogallo and
Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
Commissioner Ogallo
said corruption undermines democracy and fuels inequality, adding that
preventive action is key to entrenching accountability.
“Through prevention,
we can build a culture of transparency that benefits all citizens,” he said.
Governor Cheboi, on
his part, pledged his administration’s support, saying the county will roll out
measures designed to improve accountability and enhance service delivery.
The move follows the
latest EACC National Ethics and Corruption Survey, which placed Baringo second
nationwide in bribe prevalence, accounting for 6.94 percent of the national
share.
While expressing
commitment to supporting counties in building ethical and accountable
institutions to safeguard public resources, EACC underscored that it expects the
new partnership to reverse the trend.
Baringo now joins
Makueni and Embu as among the first counties to implement the 2023 CPC
framework, under the EACC-GIZ Good Governance Programme.
