The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into allegations of theft of public funds, conflict of interest and procurement fraud of Ksh.373 million in purchasing heavy road construction equipment and trucks in Bomet County.

The probe targets county officials and private entities alleged to have conspired in weaving and executing fraudulent transactions.

EACC has written to the county secretary requesting various financial and procurement documents and information to facilitate the investigation.

“Kindly provide us with the following original documents: approved budget for FY 2022/2023 & 2023/2024; approved procurement plan for FY 2022/2023 and 2023/2024; procurement requisition; approved memo-seeking approval advertisement,” EACC South Rift Regional Manager Ignatius Wekesa says in a July 30 letter.

The graft body further wants an advertisement notice; standard tender document; original tender documents submitted by bidders; appointment letters for tender opening or evaluation committee; and the tender opening register, among others.

“Our officers M. Kemei, M. Njiru and A. Abdi or any other authorized Commission officer will be available to collect the documents,” the letter adds.

Through its Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, EACC said persons found culpable will be prosecuted and any public funds lost in the scandal recovered.
