The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak has revealed that a sitting governor is facing possible arrest and prosecution for violating the law.

The governor is said to have, among others, forged his degree certificate to meet the education threshold required to vie for the county seat.

Addressing Members of Parliament during the induction programme held at Safari Park Hotel on Thursday, Mbarak said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has concurred with the commission’s recommendation to prosecute the governor.

However, the EACC boss did not reveal the name of the said governor.

“Mr. Mbarak informed the MPs that there is imminent arrest of one serving Governor for violation of the law. The Director of Public of Public Prosecutions has concurred with EACC recommendation to prosecute the Governor,” read a statement from EACC sent to newsrooms on Friday.

In his address to the legislators, Mbarak raised several critical issues affecting the fight against corruption and highlighted areas that require urgent and decisive reform actions.

One of these areas, he stated, is the management of counties under the stewardship of governors.

Mbarak said EACC has profiled all governors and will continue to prioritize investigations in county governments based on corruption risks identified in financial management, public procurement and recruitment.

The CEO said, in this regard, EACC has for the last three financial years concluded 501 investigations on corruption and related offences.

He further stated that in this period, 191 corruption cases were finalized in court, with assets worth Ksh.22.8 billion recovered and surrendered back for public benefit.

He added that the watchful eye on counties has helped avert loss of approximately Ksh.32.5 billion by disrupting corruption networks.

Mbarak concluded that EACC remains focused on its constitutional mandate and will continue undertaking its functions professionally and without favour.
