East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Florence Jematia has been released on a Ksh.1 million bond with two sureties of a similar amount after being arraigned for uttering inciteful utterances.

The lawmaker spent Thursday night in police custody pending a ruling on an application by the prosecution to detain her for five days pending conclusion of investigations into the matter.

She was presented before Kabarnet Law Courts Resident Magistrate Nerolyne Idagwa who directed she be released not later than 3pm today.

The court further cautioned her to avoid public rallies and directed that she appear before DCI offices on daily basis from 9am for the next five days sought by the prosecution to complete investigations.

She was also ordered from making inciteful remarks.

On Thursday, her lawyers led by Manaseh Tunen requested the court to allow her to be taken for treatment at a private hospital in Kabarnet town since she is suffering from ulcers.

Jematia was arrested and grilled at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday for allegedly threatening to arm Baringo residents to fend off bandits.

Citing lack of insecurity in the area, the MP was caught on video on January 30 in Lamaiwe threatening to start a funds drive to aid the purchase of guns.
