Education ministry team to probe Lugusi student killing

The Ministry of Education has sent a team to Lugusi Boys High School in Kakamega to investigate an incident where a Form Two student was killed.

It is alleged that one of his colleagues stabbed him to death on Wednesday after an altercation.

In a press statement, Education CS Amina Mohammed expressed her sympathy over the incident that disrupted learning in the School.

“The Ministry of education is saddened with what happened in Lugusi Boys,” the statement read in part.

“Following the unfortunate incident, the ministry has sent a team to the school to investigate the matter and establish circumstances under which the student lost his life, ” Amina said.

Amina further said the Ministry has also sent a team of counsellors to help Form Four students who are preparing for their KCSE examinations deal with the shocking experience.

She reaffirmed the need for utmost discipline among students as a way of providing a conducive learning environment for both teachers and learners.

“Appropriate discipline of students provides a mechanism for dealing with conflicts, instead of disrupting desired environment for learning in Schools,” Amina said.

A sombre mood engulfed Lugusi school on Thursday after the incident which some of the students said was due to a scuffle in class over a flash disk.

The student succumbed to injuries while receiving first aid by teachers who arrived at the scene.

The suspect is in police custody in Malava as investigations continue.
